Chapter Six
Lucent and I walked into my family dining room the next morning hand in hand. We were late, but I wasnât sorry. Iâd needed to feel Lucent inside me a few more times before he left.
To my relief, the parental unit wasnât in the dining room. Before I could ask where they were, Caleb said, âYour parents have taken their breakfast in their suite.â
That was good. I could talk freely with my mates. Not that I couldnât with the PU in the room, but some things me and the guys had to deal with I didnât want them involved in. Plus, Lucentâs mission was personal, and I didnât need my mother going all Alpha protector when we didnât know enough facts about Jerick.
I took a seat next to Karn, and Lucent sat on my other side. Zelpharâs gaze burned into me. Heâd watched Lucent and me come into the room, and I hadnât returned his stare yet. When I finally glanced at him, I noted there were no emotions in his features. I couldnât tell if he was jealous. If he was, then heâd have to get over it.
Karn leaned into me and kissed my cheek. âMorning.â
âMorning,â I said and kissed him on the lips, then made eye contact with Zelphar. One corner of his lips twitched. It was so slight, if Iâd blinked, I would have missed it. I rolled my eyes at him.
âIâll be leaving right after breakfast,â Lucent announced.
Zelphar jerked his gaze to Lucent. âYou canât leave her now.â
âI have something I need to take care of. We talked about this already.â Lucent nodded at Caleb. âIâll need your help.â
Caleb frowned. âIt canât wait a few weeks?â
I gave Lucent a pointed look to stop being so cryptic. âLucent has a personal, family thing to take care of.â
Zelphar crossed his arms. âAnd youâre taking Caleb with you? Not happening. In case you havenât noticed, we have a ghost issue that takes priority over everything right now.â
I was the first to respond, âI told him to go.â
Lucent draped his arm over the back of the chair and massaged my neck. âIf I donât research why my father died owing a debt to a mage, my little problem will be all of ours.â
âWhat do you mean?â Zelphar asked.
Lucent told them the story. âJerick made it clear the last time he was here, he was interested in Ember. I know for a fact, the SOB will use her to collect on the debt.â
âJerick has been on the mage most wanted list for decades,â Caleb spoke up for the first time since Lucent and I entered the dining room. âThe opportunity to take him down is too good to pass up, so count me in.â Then he looked at Zelphar and said, âYou, Karn, and Ember can handle a ghost. Plus, you have the enforcers backing you and Hera in your back pocket.â
Zelphar growled and curled his lip at the sound of his stepmotherâs name. I held up my hand to him.
